How long does it take to receive my results?

You will receive your results 4-6 weeks from the time that our lab receives your completed sample.

How do I complete my DNA sample?

You will be shipped a testing kit with detailed instructions within 3-5 days of your order. Your sample will be collected using a simple saliva swab against the inside of your cheeks. Completing your DNA sample takes 2-5 minutes and can be done in the comfort of your home.

Does Vitagene sell my data to any third party or partner?

No. The Vitagene business model is not based on selling or licensing your genetic data to any third party partner or pharmaceutical company. An anonymous version of your information is used to help our internal algorithm learn and improve in order to continue to provide safe and accurate recommendations to our customers.

What information is used to form my personalized recommendations?

Vitagene uses the latest scientific research in nutrition and genetics to analyze your DNA and detailed information about your medical history, health goals, and lifestyle. This includes information about which medications and supplements you are already taking as this information is essential in forming your recommendations.

What information will I learn?

The Health + Ancestry Report includes a breakdown of your ancestry going back five generations, as well as a personalized analysis of your diet, exercise, and supplementation. Your results will include answers to questions such as: Where did my ancestors originate from? How well can I process sugar or dairy products? Am I at risk of having higher LDL cholesterol levels? Am I more suited towards power or endurance exercises? Which vitamins should I be taking?

Is my data protected?

Vitagene uses industry standard security practices to store and protect your DNA sample, results, and any additional information you provide. Your results and DNA sample are stored without any identifying information and your physical sample is destroyed after it is processed. Vitagene does not share your information with any third party without your explicit consent.

How does the Vitagene process work?

After purchase, you will receive an email with instructions on how to fill out your online lifestyle questionnaire. A DNA testing kit with a pre-paid return label will be shipped to you in 3-5 days. Follow the instructions included with your testing kit to complete and return your sample. Our team of scientists will process your DNA sample and analyze your questionnaire. Four to six weeks after you have returned your sample and completed your questionnaire, you will receive your results through your online dashboard.

How can you determine my ancestry through DNA?

Each individual person is unique but shares common connections to family members from your past. Scientists can uncover those connections by analyzing your DNA. DNA can be thought of as the template your body uses to make you who you are. Just as each person is different, so is their DNA. Even though your DNA is unique from others, parts of your DNA was passed down to you by your ancestors. These similarities are the most accurate way to use your DNA to link you to your ancestors from the past.

Do you ship internationally?

Can I use my data from a previous DNA test?

Yes! Vitagene can provide you with results using your raw data from a previous DNA test . Order the "Health Report" if you already have DNA results from a previous test.

How accurate are my results?

1. Your results are analyzed using only the latest available research in the fields of genetics and nutrition.
2. All saliva swab samples are processed in CLIA-certified and CAP-accredited labs.
3. The Vitagene DNA testing kit is manufactured in accordance with the FDA's Good Manufacturing Practice regulations.
4. Genotyping, the process in which we analyze your sample, is a well-established and reliable way to analyze DNA.
5. Ancestry percentages provide you with estimates down to the 0.1%. Your results can inform your ancestry going back thousands of years.
6. Vitagene has created the largest nutrition genetics database commercially available to support your results.

What services do you provide?

Vitagene provides the Health + Ancestry Report which covers both ancestry and a complete nutritional and exercise analysis. If you have done your DNA testing already with another company such as 23&me and Ancestry, we can run your analysis for you at a reduced cost (Health Report). In addition to DNA testing, we partner with high-quality pharma-grade supplementation partners to send your recommended supplements on a monthly basis.

Do I need to activate my DNA testing kit?

If you have purchased a DNA test kit from Amazon.com, you will need to activate your kit by visiting Activate located in the top navigation. If you have purchased a kit from the Vitagene website, you do not need to activate your kit.

Will I receive my raw DNA file?

Vitagene is able to provide you with your full raw DNA file upon request. Once you have received your results, simply email support@vitagene.com to receive your raw file.
