How long does it take to receive my results?

You will receive your results 4-6 weeks from the time that our lab receives your completed sample.

How do I complete my DNA sample?

Your DNA test requires only a simple DNA cheek swab. Once you receive your complete kit, it will include easy-to-follow instructions of how to swab the inside of your cheeks. Your order comes with a pre-paid return mailer, so returning your sample is quick, easy, and cost-free.

Does Vitagene sell my data to any third party or partner?

No. The Vitagene business model is not based on selling or licensing your genetic data to any third party partner or pharmaceutical company. An anonymous version of your information is used to help our internal algorithm learn and improve in order to continue to provide safe and accurate recommendations to our customers.

What information is used to form my personalized recommendations?

Vitagene uses the latest scientific research in nutrition and genetics to analyze your DNA and detailed information about your medical history, health goals, and lifestyle. This includes information about which medications and supplements you are already taking as this information is essential in forming your recommendations.

Is my data protected?

Vitagene uses industry standard security practices to store and protect your DNA sample, results, and any additional information you provide. Your results and DNA sample are stored without any identifying information and your physical sample is destroyed after it is processed. Vitagene does not share your information with any third party without your explicit consent.

How does the Vitagene process work?

After purchase, you will receive an email with instructions on how to fill out your online lifestyle questionnaire. A DNA testing kit with a pre-paid return label will be shipped to you in 3-5 days. Follow the instructions included with your testing kit to complete and return your sample. Our team of scientists will process your DNA sample and analyze your questionnaire. Four to six weeks after you have returned your sample and completed your questionnaire, you will receive your results through your online dashboard.

How can you determine my ancestry through DNA?

Each individual person is unique but shares common connections to family members from your past. Scientists can uncover those connections by analyzing your DNA. DNA can be thought of as the template your body uses to make you who you are. Just as each person is different, so is their DNA. Even though your DNA is unique from others, parts of your DNA was passed down to you by your ancestors. These similarities are the most accurate way to use your DNA to link you to your ancestors from the past.

What makes Vitagene unique from other DNA testing companies?

Our team of scientist are focused on providing you with an action plan that is simple to follow, yet completely tailored to your personal health information. Your report is designed to help you improve your sleep, energy, stress and overall health by giving you an action plan around your nutrition (diet), exercise and supplementation. Vitagene also provides you with skin, ancestry, diet and fitness health reports. 

Do you ship internationally?

Vitagene does not currently ship outside of the United States. If you are interested in joining our international waiting list, please contact support@vitagene.com.

Can I use my data from a previous DNA test?

Yes! Vitagene can provide you with a Health Report using your raw data from a previous DNA test .  Vitagene accepts raw DNA files from AncestryDNA23andMe, and MyHeritage.

How accurate are my results?

Vitagene has created the largest nutrition genetics database commercially available to support your results, and your report is created using only the latest available research in the fields of genetics and nutrition. Genotyping, the process in which we analyze your data, is a well-established and reliable way to analyze DNA.ncestry percentages provide you with estimates down to the 0.1%.  Your results are analyzed using only the latest available research in the fields of genetics and nutrition. All saliva swab samples are processed in CLIA-certified and CAP-accredited labs.

 

What services do you provide?

Vitagene provides a complete personal plan around your diet, supplementation, skin and fitness. We want to be your health partner and provide you with actionable and effective plans that will help you be healthier and happier day to day. the Health + Ancestry Report which provides a complete nutritional and exercise analysis, as well as ancestry. If you have done DNA testing in the past with another company, we can run your analysis for you at a reduced cost (Health Report). In addition to DNA testing, we offer the option of purchasing monthly, pharma-grade quality supplements personalized to your DNA and lifestyle.

Do I need to activate my DNA testing kit?

Yes, Please make sure to activate your Vitagene kit in order to connect yourself to your DNA samples.
So we may provide you with the results of those samples.
You will be able to locate your kit/vial ID code in your instruction card if you have happened to send your sample in before activating your kit.

Will I receive my raw DNA file?

Vitagene is able to provide you with your full raw DNA file upon request. Once you have received your results, simply email support@vitagene.com to receive your raw file.

Which forms of payment are accepted?

Vitagene accepts the following forms of payment: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club.

How do I upload my DNA file?

Once you have purchased your Health Report, you will automatically be sent to your online account, which includes detailed instructions on how to upload your DNA file based on which company performed your previous analysis. Vitagene supports files uploaded in the .txt format.

Which companies does Vitagene accept DNA files from?

Vitagene accepts raw DNA files from AncestryDNA, 23andMe, and MyHeritage.

How is my privacy protected?

Vitagene uses industry standard security practices to store and protect your DNA file, results, and any additional information you provide. Your results and DNA files are stored without any identifying information. Vitagene does not share your information with any third party without your explicit consent.

Once I submit the sample, do I sign away rights of ownership to the sample?

No, you retain ownership of your sample.

How long are DNA results stored?

The result of the analysis is stored indefinitely.

Is my information sold or rented?

No, your information is never sold or rented and is only shared if you request it.

What is your policy on sharing information with law enforcement?

Vitagene chooses to use all practical legal and administrative resources to resist requests from law enforcement, and we do not share customer data with any public databases, or with entities that may increase the risk of law enforcement access. In certain circumstances, however, Vitagene may be required by law to comply with a valid court order, subpoena, or search warrant for genetic or personal information.  To date, Vitagene has not received any requests from law enforcement to share genetic data in a legal proceeding.

Do you test for the MTHFR gene?

Yes, we test for the MTHFR gene, which can be found in the Micronutrient report

What should I do if one of my vials is missing liquid?

It is okay to send in one completed vial. Simply follow the instructions for the vial that has liquid and send it back.  

What are the system requirements for Vitagene?

You can access Vitagene platform from various devices and platforms, on both PC and Mac desktops / laptops, as well as Android and iOS mobile devices. Our system requirements for these follow below.
